FOOTBALL: The Bridge 1st team moved up to third in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division after a comfortable 3-0 home defeat of St.Leonards Social. The Bridge took the lead after 25 minutes when Guy Ballard broke through to round the keeper and he could have scored again on the half hour mark but his header hit the crossbar. The second period was just 10 minutes old when defender Ben Hardy scored with his head from a Chris Phillips corner but then the visitors pushed to get back into the game but they found man of the match Grant Lewis in good form in the Bridge goal. The three points were secured when substitute Liam Baker lobbed the keeper after 80 minutes. The 2nd team travelled to second placed Parkfield in Division 5 with a weakened side and just eleven players. Both sides had chances in the opening twenty minutes but the first test on either keeper came after 25 minutes when Paul Rockett’ 30 yard lob was touched over by the home keeper. The second half saw the game develop into a stalemate with neither side having clear shots on goal but The Bridge had a good chance after 70 minutes when Ben Thorpe’ run past three players to the bye line looked promising until his run was stopped by the home defence. Man of the match Dan Frost had a good game at right back as the Bridge defence stood firm to claim a well earned point.
