Rustington cottons on to greener shopping

DO AWAY with plastic, that's the message from the Rustington Community Partnership.

The organisation, with the help of local businesses and groups, has purchased 2,000 cotton bags, and will be giving them away free , in The Street, Rustington, from 9am-1pm tomorrow (Saturday, September 5).

David Helyar, of the group, has been organising the campaign along with wife Mary, and said: "It is a well-known fact that plastic bags take about 500 years to disintegrate and are a menace to wildlife, especially along the coast."

The bags will be printed with the slogan "Cotton's Fantastic, Why Use Plastic?", which was the winning entry, by Rustington Community Primary School year 5 pupil Timothy Efendi, in a competition run earlier in the year.
