Rye residents call community meeting

PEOPLE on Rye’s Tilling Green estate are being urged to attend a special community meeting called by the Residents’ Association.

The meeting, on November 29 at Rye Baptist Church at 6pm, will celebrate the re-opening of the Tilling Green school building and set out plans for the future.

After being shut for two years, the Residents’ Association and Rye Partnership joined forces to get the building up and running as a community facility.

A representative from The Rye Partnership will be attending to give a full report of what is proposed and will be on hand for any questions people may have with regard to this exciting new project for 2011.

They invite residents to come forward with their ideas and see photos of what the school looks like inside.

Tina Hall, secretary of TGRA says “All the ground work has been done and now the hard work begins.

“The challenge is now to show that the ‘need’ is not all talk, and make the most of the opportunity we now have to make a community centre viable now and for the future of Tilling Green and surrounding area.

“We now need to do some serious fund raising. Maybe like Hastings Pier, instead of buying a plank of wood, you could buy a length of copper piping.

“Any good ideas welcome. This could be the last TGRA meeting we have to hold at The Baptist Church, without whose support we would have struggled to find somewhere to have our meetings. The next meting could well be at the school.

“Come along for a chat a mince pie and a drink of mulled Juice. Come on Tilling Green, hard hats on and come and join us.”
