Rye Rotary gets visit from Down Under

VISITORS from ‘Down Under’ popped in to Rye Tennis Club recently to visit the Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club.

Robin and Peter Smith from Warners Bay in New South Wales called upon the club to bring best wishes from their town of 7,000 inhabitants which is around 65 miles north of Sydney Ausralia.

They presented Rye Rotary with a commemorative plaque as well as bringing greetings from their own Rotary Club.

The unexpected guests exchanged news on fund raising ideas and informed Rye Rotary President Chris Fairman of details of their own ‘Loop the Lake’ a 70Km sponsored cycle ride around Lake Macquarie. This last year raised £66,000 for good causes with over 2,000 riders taking part in the all day event.

Chris thanked them for taking the time to call upon the Rye club and in return informed them of Rye’s ‘Le Tour de Rye et Romney Marsh cycle ride taking place this October. He concluded the gathering by presenting the husband and wife couple with a pennant to mark their visit and take back to their own club on the other side of the world.
