Dean Saunders was pleased with the reaction his players showed in today’s 5-1 home win over Barnsley.
It was Crawley Town’s second win in 17 League One games and a stark contrast to Tuesday’s 5-0 hammering by Doncaster Rovers.
A hat-trick from Izale McLeod along with goals from Marvin Elliott and Sonny Bradley lifted Reds to within two points of safety.
Saunders said: “It’s a great way to respond from us after obviously getting beat by five on Tuesday night, but on Tuesday night the game was quite similar to today’s game for a hour.
“We scored at the right time with a great goal. It was a good flick on by Pogs (Mathias Pogba) and a great finish from Izale (McLeod).
“We went from strength to strength then and scored just after half-time from a set-piece. It makes a big difference when you score from set plays as they did us in midweek from one and today we turned it around.
“Having fours or fives out of tens last week, we have had eights and nines today from a lot of them.
“I think they (Barnsley) are expected to get promotion with the budget they have got and the players they have got, so once again we were up against it, but we defended well and the strikers have done their bit.
“There have been some great performance, Izale will get the headlines as it was a great hat-trick. Pogba has played well, Lee Fowler was outstanding, Sonny Bradley has come in, waited for his chance and never missed anything all day.
“Lewis Young played right-back out of position and did well. Ryan Dickson’s wife had a baby last night, congratulations to her, and I didn’t have to ask him to play, he just said ‘I am ready, I’ll get a good night sleep and by straight onto it’.
“The goalkeeper has played well, Wardy (Darren Ward) has played well and Marvin Elliott was outstanding getting to the ball first.
“When you go through it like that, that’s the reason we ended up winning comfortably.”
