School on cloud nine as it rises through the league

THE Towers Convent School in Upper Beeding has been named one of the country's top 10 independent secondary schools for 11-to-16-year-olds again.

The Parent Power list, compiled by The Sunday Times, placed the school ninth in a table of the top 50 independent secondaries with a small sixth form or without one.

The table is one of several that makes up the Parent Power rankings, and the convent school's place was based on GCSE performance this summer.

It achieved 53.6 per cent A* and A grades and moves up one place from last year's ranking.

Head teacher Carole Baker said she was pleased with the ranking, saying the school had dedicated teachers and happy children, and received good inspection reports.
