School prepares to welcome royal visitor

Students at Hazelwick will receive a right royal visitor next week.

HRH The Duke of Gloucester will visit the school on Wednesday (November 13) to open a number of new rooms.

The rooms include new classrooms for the modern foreign languages department, an IT suite, revamped sixth-form offices, more teaching space for the music department together with computers for music technology work and a new recording studio, upgraded practice rooms and music office.

During his visit, the Duke will tour the Upper School, before moving to the six-form octagon, where he will meet students.

The highlight of the afternoon will be a tree planting ceremony by the Duke.

The tree chosen is a liquidambar – a North American tree similar to a maple – chosen for its brilliant and long-lasting autumnal colours.

The Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Mrs Susan Piper will accompany the Duke during the tour.

Ann Fearon, headteacher at Hazelwick School said, “All of the staff and students are very much looking forward to the Duke’s visit, and the planting of the tree will allow us to remember the day in years to come.”
