The 1st Langley Scout Group received the donations from UK Power’s old staff canteen, allowing them to keep their store room tidy, and complete more cooking activities whilst on camps.

Chris Shackell, group quartermaster for the scouts who works at the electrical company, came up with the idea while serving on the staff facilities committee.

He said: “ We desperately need shelving and pots and pans for our new hut, because ours are in a very poor state. We don’t have a lot of money so any help we can get goes a long way.

“We can use the shelving to keep everything tidy and clean and will be able to find the equipment easier.

“The pots and pans will go out with the Scouts when they go camping so they will be cooking meals on it over camp fires. It’s all about them learning the skills of life.”

Scout groups across the UK give 400,000 young people with the opportunity to take part in activities that provide valuable skills, build confidence, and form bonds of friendship that last a lifetime.

The group is one of 11 in the Crawley area, and has over 50 beavers, cubs, and scouts aged between five and 18, all of whom will benefit from the new equipment generously donated by the electricity provider.
