COFFEE MORNING: There will be a coffee morning on Saturday July 25 at “Tamar”, The Street, Sedlescombe, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. It is from 10am to 12 noon. There will be a cake stall, and tombola as well as the usual tea, coffee and biscuits. If anyone wishes to donate cakes or tombola prizes before the day, please ring Hilary on 01424 870397. There may be an answerphone, if so please leave a message.

SEDLESCOMBE SUMMER FAYRE: What a super day Saturday was, the sun shone and you came in great numbers to support the village for the return of this special event. It was lovely to see everyone meeting up with friends and family enjoying the stalls and activities on offer. Many of the village groups and charities took part, raising substantial amounts whilst having a good time. Visitors had the opportunity to view a selection of classic Triumph cars, make flower arrangements , admire art , drink tea and Pimms , not necessarily together, eat cake, bowl an over, kick a football, smash crockery, lick an ice cream, play on the human fruit machine, plus much more besides. The star attraction though was of one of our village geese, pooping in a square and making someone day when they won £500! John Brownsdon had worked tirelessly to ensure all the squares had been sold on the cricket area for this to happen, the profit going to local charity. The Grand Draw was so well supported by local businesses donating prizes and by you buying tickets, that this year it raised nearly £800 most of this on the actual fayre day. Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day or before. The main Thanks must be given to Peter Anson though, without his commitment to seeing the fayre return this year the event just would not have happened. He was ably supported by Sally Sidgwick, Derek Wright, Brian Croucher, Lindsay Fraser, Michelle Brister, Debra Veitch who between them organised and coordinated the whole event.

THANK YOU: Thank you from St Michael’s hospice for your support of our refreshment area at the fayre last Saturday. Although we were short of some of our equipment due to the recent fire in St Leonards, you kindly helped us raise nearly £500 on the day which we are very grateful for.

AFTER THE FAYRE: The day turned into evening and those of us lucky enough to have bought a ticket for the village hall were treated to some gentle jazz with Mike Hatchard and Herbie Flowers. Both performers being highly regarded in the music industry, so talented, experienced and entertaining, both to watch and listen to. A delicious supper was served during the evening with the bar being run by the village hall committee. A good end to the hustle and bustle of the fayre. A separate committee arranged this evening event, headed up by Carol Brownsdon, the profit from tickets and the fabulous raffle raised a magnificent £1000 for Sedlescombe surgery, so very well done to all those who organised and contributed to make this happen.

GARDEN SUMMER SHOW RESULTS: The Garden Society held its Summer Show in conjunction with the Village Summer Fayre last Saturday on a beautiful summer afternoon. There were some wonderful displays of flowers, vegetables and house plants and some very interesting photographs. Although numbers in the floral art section was disappointing the standard of the exhibits was outstanding. Many thanks to all those that entered exhibits in the show and hope everyone that attended enjoyed the flower show as well as the summer fete. MINI MARKET AND COFFEE MORNING: On Thursday August 6, the mini market will be in Sedlescombe village hall from 10.00am to 11.30am. There will be an array of stalls including books, cakes and bric a brac. Refreshments will be available throughout the morning. Transport may be available to visit please call 870533. All proceeds towards St John the Baptist Parish Church.

CHURCH SUMMER FAIR: St John the Baptist church will be holding this on Saturday August 15 in the church and churchyard from 12noon to 3pm. More news to follow in the next week or two.

ST MICHAELS HOSPICE OPEN GARDEN SCHEME

Two gardens in Stonegate will be open on Tuesday July 28 from 10.30am until 4pm in support of this local charity. Bardown Oast Farm and Orchard Cottage both in Bardown Road, TN5 7El . Entry to both is just £5. Refreshments will be available all day at Bardown Oast Farm. These will be the last open gardens of the summer period before Perch Hill at Brightling opens its gates on September 8. Well worth a visit with family or friends.
