LENT LUNCHES: Lent lunches continue today, Friday March 20 at 2 Forge Cottages , The Green from 12noon to 1.30pm with the final one taking place next week. The weather has now started to warm up a little but it is still nice to enjoy a bowl of home made soup and crusty bread whilst meeting and chatting to friends old and new. Last weeks lunch was well attended and is in support of these two good causes, Farm Africa and the local Seaview Project in St Leonards. Everyone is welcome to attend and Margaret looks forward to welcoming you.

EASTER FAYRE: This Saturday, March 21 from 1-3pm.Sedlescombe Pre-School is hosting an Easter Fayre at the Village. All welcome to join in for Easter arts and crafts and enjoy an array of stalls including a Chocolate Tombola, Lucky dip, Bric a Brac, second hand toys plus much more. There will be an Easter Bake Off Competition and an Easter Bonnet Parade and the Fayre will be opened by the Easter Bunny at 1pm

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH CHURCH: EASTER SERVICES on April 2 an Agape feast will take place at 7pm, this will include soup and a roll, cheese and fruit with bible readings for Maundy Thursday. Please phone Father Kevin on 870471 if you wish to attend to know numbers for catering.

Good Friday April 3 , the church choir will be singing “ Cross of Christ” as always to welcome everyone to join together to listen to this beautiful music.

Saturday April 4 the church will be decorated with lilies and daffodils by the dedicated voluntary flower arranging team from 10am onwards in preparation for the Easter services. Later that evening, Saturday April 4 at 8pm the Easter Vigil service will take place.

Easter Sunday April 5 Parish Eucharist at 10.30am, the church will then be open from 12.30 to 4pm for visitors to enjoy tea and cake whilst viewing the beautiful Easter flowersand also open again to visit on Monday April 6. Do try and make some time over the weekend to visit.

COFFEE MORNING AND MINI MARKET: The next coffee morning and mini market will be in the village hall on Thursday April 2 from 10 to 11.30am. All the usual stalls and refreshments will be on offer. A perfect opportunity to meet up with your friends for a coffee or tea for £1 plus they will have hot cross buns and cheese scone available too. All proceeds to benefit St John the Baptist church. PARISH COUNCIL: Carol Hodgson our Parish clerk writes; Sedlescombe Parish Council sadly said goodbye to 3 Councilors over the past few months, John Reynolds, Simon Lawrence and Rod Eldridge. In February we were pleased to welcome on board Michelle Brister and Mark Winchester. The remaining vacancy will be filled at the elections in May. This is a big election year with the General, District and Parish Council Elections all taking place on May 7 2015, but don’t forget to be eligible to vote you need to be on the Register of Electors. If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councilor, the nomination period for election will commence on Monday March 30 2015. All prospective candidates who want to stand for election must formally submit their nomination by 4pm on April 9 2015 to Rother DC. Please note the nomination form and consent to nomination must be submitted by hand and cannot be submitted by post, fax, email or other electronic means. Further details will be available on both Parish and District Council’s website nearer the time.

Parish Council met with ESCC Highways in Sedlescombe to look at the proposed traffic calming scheme to slow traffic from Brede Lane entering The Green outside the shop. This will be a jointly funded project between Parish Council and ESCC’s Community Match Funding. On receipt of Highways proposed design, Parish Council will go out to public consultation with local residents and businesses. The Post Office is proposing changes to Sedlescombe Post Office and would like your feedback before March 27 2015. SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT GARDENING SOCIETY: The society held a very successful speaker afternoon last week with a talk by Everett Leeds on “Clematis through the Seasons”. This proved to be informative and entertaining, and was well attended.

Next event is the Spring Show on Saturday April 11 in the village hall. This event is open to members and non-members and has classes for flowers, vegetables, floral art, handicraft, cookery, photographs and art. So if you are interested then please have a look through the Show Schedule and decide today what classes you are going to enter. If you need a Show Schedule then please contact John Parsons on 01580 831996. Staging will be held between 8.00 to 10.15. and judging takes place between 10.30 and 1.30pm. The village hall will be open to the public from 2.00pm and as well as enjoying viewing all the exhibits there will be a raffle and some lovely home made cakes, tea and coffee as refreshments.

SPRING SHOW: If you would like a practice first then our neighbouring village of Westfield are holding their Horticultural Society Spring Show ion Saturday, March 28 at 2.30pm in the Community Hall, Moor Road, Westfield. There are nine classes encompassing all that a Village Show should have from Flowers, Plants, Flower arranging, Domestic Produce, etc. This year, class 91, is a new fun class, which is open to all the family. All one has to do is to make an animal from 5 vegetables or fruit or a combination of both. Vegetables and/or fruit can be bought in and there is no size limit. Hopefully, there are some photographs on the Website and the Society’s Facebook to give you some ideas. Let the best and most original one win! As usual, tea and cakes are available together with the celebrated Tombola. There is also a plant sale and seed exchange. You are welcome to come along and see what the Society has to offer.

MEET YOUR CANDIDATE: If you missed the opportunity recently of meeting Huw Merriman, the recently selected Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, there is another date this Saturday March 21 at 10am at Etchingham Bistro at Etchingham station. No booking required just go along on the date at the time.

THE FRIENDSHIP CLUB QUIZ NIGHT: Good Luck to everyone taking part in the quiz tonight at Sedlescombe village hall. Hope everyone has an enjoyable evening as well as raising funds for the Friendship Club.
