Sedlescombe & District Garden Society first talk of the year is on this Tuesday March 12 by Sue Mitchell entitled “Growing Irises for Chelsea” and the second talk is by Barry Newman on the subject of “Growing Vegetables in Raised Beds” on Tuesday March 12. Both talks will start at 2.00 p.m at the Village Hall and there will be a raffle and refreshments. Non-members are welcome at a cost of £2 per person per event. Due to unforeseen circumstances these talks replace those previously advertised. The Society welcomes new members at the very reasonable membership fee of just £10.00 for a family or £7.00 for an individual. We have at least one event every month, except January, including Spring, Summer & Autumn Shows, a plant sale, speakers, coach trips, a garden safari and a barbecue. Members also receive the Society magazine which is issued four times a year. So why not join for a full and varied programme. A change to Sedlescombe and District Flower Club next meeting on Wednesday February 13, Brenda Wilson, from the Shirley Leaf and Petal Company will be giving a talk entitled Behind the Scenes. The company make artificial flowers for opera and theatre productions so this should prove a very interesting evening. Members please note this is a change to the original programme and you are reminded that you do not have to bring any flowers to this meeting as previously requested. Refreshments and sales tables will be available as usual. Members, friends and visitors are always welcome at Sedlescombe village hall with doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm start

Pestalozzi village invite friends old and new to come and celebrate the Tibetan new year at their Tibetan Cultural Evening on Wednesday February 13, from 7:30 to 9:30pm. This all take place in Swiss Hall, Ladybird Lane, TN33 0UF. Learn more about the political situation in Tibet from a short presentation and video, sample Tibetan food, enjoy songs performed by our students and learn a Tibetan dance.

Lent lunches start this year on Friday, February 15 at 2 Forge cottages, The Green for the next six weeks. Everyone is welcome to attend for a bowl of homemade soup and crusty bread for £2.50 a head. What could you do with £100? Sedlescombe’s got Talent night returns again to the village hall on Friday March 1 following on from the success of 2011, yes it really is two years ago that the hall was packed out with performers and audience showing what great talent there is around the village and beyond. Now there is another chance to take part in 2013, talented performers are requested to come forward as soon as possible to secure their place to perform on the night. there is no entry fee so can you sing, dance, juggle, play, recite or maybe you have another surprise for us? The £100 first prize is available to the overall winner, so don’t be shy. Places are limited so please contact Anthony on 870722 or Jean on 882438.

The Friendship Club are looking for teams for their popular quiz that takes place at Sedlescombe village hall on Friday March 22 at 7.00 pm. You are invited to bring along your family and friends as a team to take part or maybe make up a team on the night and meet new friends. Last Monday, Cllr Pauline Glew, on behalf of the Parish Council gave out prizes to the children at Sedlescombe Primary school. Pupils have been working on Road Safety Sign Posters to raise awareness of dangers in the area. Cllr Rod Eldridge, Cllr Chapman and Cllr Pauline Gle , as Vice Chair of the Parish Council, carried out the judging. The winning posters will be displayed in the village hall so please make a note to take a look when you next visit.
