Skygazers urged to stay safe for tomorrow’s solar eclipse

The eclipse, which happens when the moon passes between the sun and the earth will begin shortly after 8.30am and peak at approximately 9.40am, before concluding around 10.45am.

Safety officials have warned people to take care and never look directly at the sun, as doing so can damage the eye’s retina.

This damage usually occurs due to staring at the sun, watching a solar eclipse or viewing an ultraviolet or other bright light, and it is often painless, so people do not realise what they are doing to their vision.
