Sky’s the limit for animal loving mountaineer

A DEVOTED mountaineer is gearing up to climb the highest mountain in the UK in an aim to help suffering animals in third world countries.

Ben Redford, 22, from Capel, said he has chosen to trek up Ben Nevis mountain to raise money for the international charity, The Brooke, because it is ‘dedicated to improving the life of suffering horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world’s poorest communities’.

He said: “It also helps that I love animals and I do not want to see these animals suffering and would love to make a positive impact on their lives.”

The event will last an entire weekend from August 17 so Ben will be camping in the mountains over night with people he does not yet know, who are trekking for their own chosen charities.

The keen climber has already raised £177 but hopes to raise at least £600.

“I am already experienced in climbing mountains, but I am doing regular long walks to train up for it and am going to the Lake District in a couple of weeks for a weeks worth on mountain training and will continue my walks up until the event.

“I need to raise a total of £550 to cover costs, but the sky is the limit really for how much I want to raise.”
