Son of Mid Sussex MP Nicholas Soames banned from driving after crash

The great-grandson of Winston Churchill and the son of MP Sir Nicholas Soames has been banned from driving after crashing his car while over the drink drive limit.

Harry David Soames, 29, of Clarendon Road, London, appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court on December 31 and pleaded guilty to drink driving.

The crash happened on November 29 at 7.50am, after Mr Soames’ BMW spun out of control on the central reservation on the M23 near Crawley.

He was subsequently found to have 56 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcgs

The court took into consideration his guilty plea and he was fined £300 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Soames was disqualified from driving for 12 months, to be reduced by three months if by 29 July, 2015 he satisfactorily completes a Home Office drink-driving course.
