Son nominates mum for exclusive i360 trip

From the numerous nominations received, Sally Slugg was chosen as one of the Sussex Community Champions.

Sally was nominated by her step-son, Jason. Sally cares for Jason’s father, Barry, full-time.

Talking to Crawley Observer, Jason describes Sally: “Dad has MS and is completely helpless without her. She tirelessly looks after him, seeing to his every need, sometimes at the expense of her own health and well-being.

“Dad is extraordinary too, in that he is forever cheerful and philosophical about his illness and the hardships born out of it. They are both active members of the community and they work towards improving the lives of other MS sufferers by being involved with both the local and national MS Societies along with being on various committees that aim to help others cope with illnesses at home.

“Sally always finds the time to help others, be it family or elderly neighbours, making sure everyone is being looked after and not suffering in any way. She really is an amazing woman and I can’t think of anyone that deserves recognition more than her.

“Dad would love this too and he is in my opinion the best dad in the world.”

British Airways i360, the world’s tallest moving observation tower, will open on Thursday, August 4; and tickets are now on sale for the new attraction on Brighton seafront.

When it opens, visitors will be able to glide up to 450 feet in a fully enclosed futuristic glass viewing pod to admire the unfolding views across Brighton and the south coast.

‘Flights’ are 20 minutes during the day and 30 minutes after 6pm, when the pod transforms into the Nyetimber Sky Bar serving the finest drinks from the region. Tickets cost from £13.50 for adults and from £6.75 for children, with under-4s free.

Conceived and designed by Marks Barfield Architects, creators of the London Eye, the record-breaking attraction opens almost exactly two years to the day when the project team put the first spade in the ground to begin construction.

Architects David Marks and Julia Barfield said: “After two years of intense ground-breaking architectural and engineering work on Brighton beach, we are delighted to announce the forthcoming completion of British Airways i360 with tickets now on sale to the public for flights from Thursday, August 4.”

The Crawley Observer – part of Johnston Press – ran the campaign across their other titles in the south, looking for Champions across Sussex. Sally, along with another 9 Champions and their families, will be one of the first people to take a flight on the British Airways i360.
