Many guests of all ages - the eldest is 103 - arrive around 10.30 am for coffee and stay on for lunch enjoying the companionship.

Over the years Anne has arranged for local organisations to take turns to provide the meals: Village Country Market, Storrington Flower Club, three local churches, Sullington WI and Storrington & Pulborough District Rotary Club.

The meal is served to up to 65 guests at a cost of £2.50 each except in December when the hall is set up and decorated by Rotarians and Rotary Wives provide a free Christmas lunch with entertainment from the Windlesham Junior School Choir and a glass of wine.

A Rotary spokesperson said: “Anne displays caring, kindness and concern for others in providing this exemplary community service that nearby villages emulate.”
