Sponsored fish raises funds for Hayleys Hope charity

THE BEXHILL Sea Angling club held a 'sponsored fish' evening in order to raise money for Hayley Orkines' charity, Hayleys Hope; and there was nothing fishy about the result as over £1,150 was raised.

The idea for the sponsored fish came from one of the club members, Chris Nicholson, who set the ball rolling to organise the event, after he saw collection boxes for Hayley's charity at Sidley Primary school - where both his ten year old daughter Molly, and Hayley are pupils.

Ten year old Hayley suffers from Progeria, an extremely rare genetic condition which accelerates the process of ageing to approximately eight times the normal rate.

Chris said: "I saw the collection boxes and thought I'd ask the lads and ladies of the club to do a sponsored fish."

Club members were more than happy to participate, and a four hour evening beach camp took place near the club on 13th September.

However, it was to be a lady angler who stole the show that day, with Jan Poland beating all the men by catching a total of five Codling fish.

Presenting Hayley with the cheque, which included a donation from the club, was club secretary Arthur Freeman, who said the sponsored fish had shown a, "good result", thanks to the generosity of all the people, and local businesses, who had kindly sponsored the anglers.

A delighted Hayley said she was, "very happy", to receive the cheque.

There then followed a celebratory drinks and buffet party for Hayley and her family at the club.
