Tomorrow (Saturday) there is a jumble sale in the village hall at 2pm so all those who missed the one earlier in the month will be able to donate or purchase at tomorrow’s sale. The Staplecross and Ewhurst Bonfire Society are holding the event and hope for plenty of support as in the past.

There is an old time music hall evening planned for Saturday March 23 at Staplecross village hall in aid of the new pavilion at the Herdman Field. Café style tables of 8 or 10 at £12 a head which includes supper and there will be a licensed bar. Make up a table or buy individual tickets to join a table and make new friends. Tickets (there are only 140) are on sale from Glenys Griffiths 01580-830491 so book today. The doors open at 6.45pm. Song sheets will be provided so everyone can join in.

Jive comes to Staplecross village hall this weekend on Sunday afternoon when the Charleston Jive Squad holds a Tea Dance 2-5pm for an afternoon of top tunes from the 1940’s and 1950’s. The in-house DJs are Swing Out Si, Miss Peaches and Darcie. The music of Glen Miller and many others will be played. If you don’t wish to dance, you are still welcome to sit and enjoy the music. The admission charge is £6 to include tea, coffee and cake.

Thursday March 21 will be the monthly meeting of Ewhurst, Staplecross and Bodiam Garden Society at the village hall at 7.30pm. The guest speaker is Sally Moon whose talk is on Roses Then and Now. Assuming that gardeners have been able to lift surplus plants there will be the usual plants table, as well as a raffle with refreshments during the evening. Newcomers always welcome.

Members of Staplecross and Ewhurst Green Women’s Institute enjoyed an afternoon in the gardens of Great Dixter by way of a talk by Chris Donoghue who inspired his audience in the use of colour in the garden and not to be afraid of red and of colours clashing.

The next meeting of the Institute will be held as always in the Church Room in Northiam Road on Tuesday April 2 at 2.30pm when Sue Hollings will be talking about her life as a couture dressmaker. The members also hold craft afternoons on the third Tuesday of the month with many handicrafts involved from knitting to quilting.
