Students go green with trash

Special recycling boxes for paper and cardboard have been introduced around Bognor Regis Community College.

The intention is to increase the amount of recycling at the college.

The initiative follows an invitation from the college's Year Ten school council to Arun District Council's clean and safe team to tackle the biggest waste problem in their classrooms, collecting and recycling waste paper.

If the boxes prove successful, there are plans to include other recyclable materials. School council members have been working with the council's clean and safe team to reduce the amount of rubbish thrown away.

An assembly was organised for all the college's Year Ten pupils, aged about 15, where Arun education and promotion officer Paul White spoke about the importance of recycling.

Mr White said: 'The fact it is the pupils that have made this an important issue shows their concern about their own school environment and the community as a whole.

'The pupils want to be proud of their school and its contribution towards solving the growing problems of landfill waste and climate change.'

The clean and safe team will continue to work closely with the community college in its efforts to improve recycling at the Westloats Lane site.
