Students help raise record sum

Ten students from Felpham Community College have been formally thanked for helping to create a Poppy Appeal record.

The house to house collection by the sixth formers and one of their parents brought in more than 550 for the annual fundraising.

This enabled the amount collected in Felpham to increase by at least 20 per cent compared to last year.

The current total stands at a best-ever just under 3,800 '“ with more money yet to be banked '“ against some 3,000 last year.

The Poppy Appeal organisers for Felpham, Jean and Graham Matthews, attended a sixth form assembly to present thank-you cards to those involved.

During the presentation, Mr Matthews stressed to the students that the Legion was having to help more under-30s and that more demands were being made on the appeal. He said he and his wife were grateful to everyone in Felpham who contributed to this year's appeal.
