STUDENTS HIT RIGHT NOTES

THREE students from Sussex Downs College's performing arts centre in Lewes are through to the semi-finals of South Coast Idol, a talent contest with auditions, heats and finals across the south coast.

Sophie Colbourne, Holly Saunders and Sara Evans sang their way to success in the regional auditions at the Thistle Hotel in Brighton.

More than 1,000 people auditioned for just 30 places in the semi-finals due to take place in March.

Holly, from Seaford, said: 'I had practised my song over and over again so I was quite confident with singing Aleta Adams Be Here.

'However, I was still nervous that I might sing on an off note.'

Sophie, a former Chailey pupil from Lewes, took part in the same audition and was placed straight through to the semi-finals after singing Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler.

She said: 'When I turned up I was extremely nervous and startled by the number of other participants who turned up.'
