Success for Crawley school's first summer fair

The sun came out for the Broadfield East Infant and Junior school's first annual Summer Fair hosted by the Parents' Association last month.

The school was a hive of activity, with outstanding performances by Stagecoach, KC’s Dance and a traditional Punch and Judy show.

Secretary for the Parents Association, known in the school as The Friends of Broadfield, Louisa Gray said: “We were delighted to have along with us Trevor Smith from Animals Work, who brought a selection of creepy crawlies, including snakes, an imperial jungle scorpion and even a tarantula that the children could touch and hold.

“The 2nd Broadfield Scouts who demonstrated flint and steel fire making, toasting marshmallows and knot tying.”

The school also invited some of Crawley’s small businesses to come and sell their goods and the event was pack with the fun of the fair activities including face painting, bouncy castles provided by Bounzone, candy floss with Sugar Snaps and pony rides provided by Kilmarnock Horse Rescue.

Louisa added: “A special thank you to Harry the horse for putting a smile on everyone’s face during such a hot and busy day.

“Crawley Fire Station also managed to make time in their busy day to come along and show the children their Fire Engine.

“Finally The Friends of Broadfield would like say a big thank you to Morrisons for donating cakes and cookies to sell, but especially to their Community Champion Georgina Innes for giving up her time and helping out on our refreshments stall.

“Thank you to everyone who helped out, we couldn’t have done it without you.

“And to those who came along to support us. And all we can say is watch this space for next year.
