Talk on living life to the full at children's hospices

The March meeting of Rose Green WI was opened by president Margaret Roberts, who welcomed new members and visitors.

The speaker this month was Mrs Sylvia Hyams, who gave an interesting insight into the wonderful work carried on at Helen House in Oxfordshire, the first children's hospice which opened 25 years ago.

A few years after Helen House opened, Douglas House became a reality, offering respite and end of life care to older children and young adults.

Both hospice houses are positive places and the emphasis is on living life to the full even when that life may be short.

On a lighter note, it was announced that member Anna Wolforth has been chosen as Miss June in the 2009 calender.

Craft guild will be held at the home of Marian Cullis on March 26 at 7.30pm.

With a view to encouraging new members, it was decided to invite entries for a poster competition to be held next month.

After a short discussion regarding future outings, the raffle was held and the competition of '˜a child's toy' was won by Pam Hutchins
