Teachers urged to join skipping scheme

Calling all health-conscious teachers who are keen to get their class on the move.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is running a free skipping workshop after school hours next month as part of its Jump Ropes For Heart fundraising scheme.

The BHF is urging teachers from the Bognor Regis area to attend the special sessions being held on November 15 in Bognor Regis Community College, in Westloats Lane.

With the aim to get schools skipping to show the heart-healthy benefits, the workshop will help teachers to sort a '˜pretzel' from a '˜Chinese wheel' so they can teach their pupils all the moves.

With more than 18,000 schools taking part in the scheme since its launch in 1987, schools registering for the initiative receive a free skipping resource kit worth more than 100. It contains everything needed to teach the skills and eventually show these off at a skipping event or Jump Off.

The scheme which has raised more than 9m for the nation's heart charity over the years has also made more than 3m for participating schools.
