The improvements include new chevrons, new signs to highlight bends in the road and new verge markings while vegetation will also be cut back.

Multiple accidents have taken place along the road over the past few years.

A woman was rushed to hospital last month after two cars collided close to the Clark’s Green roundabout.

Work will start on Monday March 6 and is expect to last five days.

Engineers will work overnight between 8pm and 6am and the northbound lane will be closed throughout the duration.

A signed diversion route will be in place.

The council says the improvements will assist motorists and give a safer driving experience along the road.

West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Bob Lanzer, added: “Putting in these improvements will highlight the shape of the road to motorists more clearly.

“It will make road users feel safer on this stretch of road.

“We ask anyone travelling overnight here to bear in mind the diversion route before setting out on their journey.”
