That's a real white wedding...

A Bognor Regis couple's marriage 60 years ago was a true white wedding.

A heavy snowfall on the day Tom and Jean King were wed at Fulham Register Office left everyone shivering.

The wintry conditions saw an uncle of Mrs King's bruised after being hit by a snowball thrown by a youth.

The couple had been together for five years before their wedding day on February 21, 1948.

They had met at a youth club on Fulham Broadway during the second world war. Mr King was a teenage guitarist in a band which played at the venue.

They grew up in the west London area and continued to live there after their marriage.

Mrs King (80) worked as a dressmaker and Mr King (81) was an ironmonger.

They moved to Shripney about 15 years ago and moved in with the family of their daughter, Stephanie Branch, in their house in Gainsboro Road in 2004.

Mr and Mrs King celebrated their diamond anniversary with a get-together for their family.

They have two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with a further great-grandchild due soon.

Mrs King said: 'I think patience is the reason for a long marriage.'
