A neighbour has described the horror as a baby fell out of a flat window in Crawley.
Emergency services were called to a block of flats in Hillmead, Gossops Green, at around 6.10pm yesterday (Wednesday August 17).
Police said a 16-month-old baby girl had fallen from a second floor flat window and landed on the grass outside.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “My little one was in the bath, then I heard a massive bang and heard a lot of commotion outside.
“I ran into the kitchen just to look out and there was a baby on the floor.
“It was the worst thing I have ever seen.
“The ambulances turned up first, then the police and then the Air Ambulance.
“They helped her onto the back of a board and they seemed to be dealing with her for quite a while in the ambulance before taking her to hospital.”
The little girl was flown to St George’s Hospital in South London to be treated for serious injuries.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances but enquiries were being made to establish the exactly what happened.
