Thousands attend St George's Day event in Horley

Horley town centre was bustling with activity at the weekend as '˜thousands of people' turned out to mark St George's Day.

The High Street was packed on Saturday as the town’s businesses, charities, churches and thousands of residents joined in the celebrations.

Caroline Hancock Horley Association of Traders organiser said: “The high street was buzzing as thousands turned out to see St George and his dragon.

“Everyone really enjoyed the music and the stall holders said it was one of their most successful events in the region.

“A big thank you to all the volunteers as without them none of it could happen.

“All money raised will go to the Christmas lights fund.”

As well as a range of businesses, community groups represented there included the The Royal British Legion, Churches4Horley. The Rotary Club of Horley and the Archway Theatre.

Throughout the day the popular Puppetkru group from the Horley Anglican Team Ministry drew young crowds with their unique puppet show. Also on the stage on the day were bands Too Far Gone and Kram and the In Choir singing group.
