Thousands of pounds granted to groups

Thousands of pounds has been granted to community groups and organisations.

The prevention and wellbeing grants were approved at a meeting of the West Crawley County Local Committee.

The money included £1,630.50 to Crawley Community Transport; £500 to the Alzheimer’s Society; £750 to the Kashmiri Women’s Welfare Association; and £750 to the West Sussex Parent Carer Forum.

The CLC had a budget of £14,399 for 2014/15 and received applications worth £39,637.40.

Among the applications turned down were the British Red Cross, whose application did not give sufficient focus to Crawley; the Crawley Deaf Club, which was deemed to have good reserves which it could use; and Age UK West Sussex, which is already commissioned by the county council.

The meeting also saw the allocation of £3,888.88 of Community Initiative Funding (CIF) to the Springboard Project, in Langley Green, to go towards repairing the centre’s roof.

A request for £2,179.38 from Crawley Town FC Sports Foundation was deferred until the next meeting.
