Fire services who attended a small fire in Tilgate Forest believe it was started on purpose.
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were called to the blaze at 11.40am, sending one engine from Crawley and one Land Rover from East Grinstead.
The Land Rover was stood down after officers found the small woodland fire burning in a tree stump. It was extinguished by 12.28pm.
A West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “We believe the small fire was deliberate ignition and the police have been informed.”
