Along with a spectacular display of fireworks, the group is planning a town centre street party, a rock-n-roll disco and a jubilee memorial garden.

Members of the committee have applied to have the High Street closed to traffic between 9pm on Sunday, June 2, to 2am the following day, to allow for the central street party.

It is hoped that Roy Martin s Jazz Caverners, Eastbourne rock-n-roll band the Riverboys and Hailsham-based rock group Hash will perform on the evening, subject to their availability.

A design has been finalised for the set of commemorative mugs that have been ordered, with The Queen s portrait on one side and the town council s crest on the other. Every primary school pupil in Hailsham will receive one free of charge, and they will be available on order for 3 each.

All profits made by the jubilee celebrations, including the sale of mugs and cash donated on the night, will be passed on to the Chairman s Jubilee Appeal for hospices in Wealden.

If you would like to buy a mug, write your name, address and telephone number on the back of a postcard, along with the number of mugs you require.

Deliver the postcard by hand to the council offices, or post it to: Jubilee Mug Offer, Hailsham Town Council, Inglenook, Market Square, Hailsham, BN27 2AE.
