Traffic delays due to flooding and repairs

There were queues on the A23 around the Gossops Green traffic lights this morning (January 7) due to flooding and repairs.

A major traffic signal at the Crawley Avenue and Gossops Drive junction is being upgraded to fix an underground cable failure.

The stretch between Cheals roundabout and Tushmore roundabout was also flooded overnight, causing further delays.

West Sussex County Council started traffic signal work on Thursday (January 2).

Further improvements will be made to the junction, including LED ligts and ‘Puffin’ style crossings.

The new signals will be more reactive to the needs of traffic.

The work is expected to take five weeks to complete.

Right turns from the A23 southbound into Gossops Drive, and right turns out of Gossops Drive, are prohibited during the works.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes while the work is being done.
