More trains for Southern Railway as coronavirus restrictions ease in Sussex

Southern Railway is providing more weekday trains from Sunday, May 16, as coronavirus restrictions ease across the country.

Parent operator Govia Thameslink Railway is adding 1,000 extra services per week across its Great Northern, Southern and Thameslink routes.

Steve White, GTR’s chief operating officer, said: “These additional trains will help provide more space on board by adding more capacity on our busier routes.”

Steve said social distancing will become more challenging as more people use trains again and he advised travellers to use online journey planners to avoid busy services.

People can see the new ‘live maps’ service at www.southernrailway.com or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk.

Passengers must wear face coverings unless they are exempt.

GTR’s modern trains have air conditioning that frequently replaces the air in each carriage and GTR sanitises all 2,700 of its train carriages every night.
