UPDATE: Fire in barn with 100 tonnes of hay in Turners Hill

A fire in a barn with 100 tonnes of hay has been brought under control.

Seven fire crews fought the blaze for eight hours after they were called to the scene in farm land off East Street, Turners Hill, at 9,03pm on Sunday (July 5).

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said a Crawley crew were still at the scene

No one was reported injured. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.

The crews - two from Crawley, one from Turners Hill, one from East Grinstead, a water carrier from Burgess Hill and a fire engine and a control unit from Haywards Heath were called to the fire in the 20m by 10m barn.

Firefighters used two hoses to stop the blaze spreading to another barn nearby.

The spokesman said crews removed 11 cylinders from the second barn as a precaution.

The fire which was under control by 5am.

Six of the crews left at 8.41am.
