Trial date set for man accused of student’s murder

The man accused of murdering Eastbourne student Janet Müller is to stand trial in February next year.

Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw appeared at Guildford Crown Court this afternoon (Friday, August 28) charged with the murder of the 21-year-old after her body was found in the boot of a burning car in Ifield on Friday, March 13, 2015.

Jeffrey-Shaw, 26, of Lakeside, Beckenham, London, appeared in court today for a Plea and Case Management Hearing, and the case has now been listed for trial on February 15, 2016.

Miss Müller, a third-year International Events Management student at the University of Brighton’s Eastbourne campus, had been reported missing from the psychiatric ward of Mill View hospital, in Hove, at around 10pm on Thursday, March 12.

Her body was found the following day in the boot of a Volkswagen Jetta parked in Rusper Road, near Ifield Golf Club.

A post-mortem examination on the body, which had suffered extensive fire damage, revealed the cause of death as smoke inhalation, suggesting Miss Müller was alive when the car was set alight.
