Two arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and blackmail

Two men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and blackmail after a man was imprisoned in a garage in Crawley.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the 23-year-old victim was taken to the garage at the back of the Premier shop, in Broadfield Barton, on Friday (March 6), where he was punched and threatened.

He was not injured.

Officers executed a warrant in the Barton on Saturday (March 7) as part of their investigation.

The spokesman said: “This is not a random attack and the men are known to each other.”

The two people arrested were a 44-year-old man from Crawley, who was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, blackmail and common assault, and 21-year-old man from Crawley, who was arrested on suspicion of blackmail and kidnap.

Both men were bailed until April 21.
