Two Crawley brothers have been sentenced for assaulting a man in the town centre.

Piotr Laciak, 24 and Przemyslaw Laciak, 33, both of Dunsfold Close, Gossops Green, pleaded guilty to assault by beating on Wednesday (May 27).

Melanie Wotton, prosecuting, said the victim was not injured after the unprovoked attack against him outside the Octopvs bar at around 11.25pm on April 25.

She said Przemyslaw and the man were involved in an altercation after Przemyslaw intentionally walked into him.

JPs heard Przemyslaw went round a group of people who tried to help and swung his arm at the man, making contact.

The court heard Piotr ran around security officers who were present and punched the man in the face.

Rod Hayler, defending, said: “It was [Przemyslaw]’s belief that comment had been made which he reacted to.

“He accepts that he might have been wrong about that or identified it might have been made by someone else.”

It was heard the brothers had been to the Punch Bowl pub shortly before the assault happened.

They were given six month conditional discharges.

Magistrates ordered both to pay £50 compensation to the victim, £150 criminal court charge, £85 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.
