TWO SCHOOLS GET POOR OFSTED REPORTS

Two Hailsham schools have received poor Ofsted reports and have beem put into 'special measures'.

They are White House School and Marshlands School.

The Ofsted verdict on Marshlands is: The school's effectiveness is unsatisfactory. Progress has been too slow since the previous inspection as standards remain exceptionally low in much of the school.

The verdict on White House is: This school's effectiveness is inadequate. This is because all levels of leadership and management have not, until recently, done enough to identify and address weaknesses.

East Sussex County Council has said it will give both schools full support in developing improvement plans.

Ofsted inspectors praised both the new Headteachers' work (in post since September 2006) to improve pupils' behaviour and raise expectations of what they can achieve.

They also highlighted that both Heads have a clear view of what the schools need to do to improve and are bringing a sense of purpose to raising standards.

However, as a result of these Ofsted Inspections both schools have had to go into 'Special Measures'.
