A man who was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the A23 has died.
Paramedics fought to save the man’s life for more than an hour on the roundabout near Squires Garden Centre, Gossops Green, today (Tuesday March 17).
The man died after he was taken by ambulance to Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, said Sussex Police.
South East Coast Ambulance Service was called to a report of a man in his 60s in need of urgent medical attention just after noon.
A spokesman said the man, who had lost consciousness and been injured, needed to be resuscitated.
He was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton in a life-threatening condition at 1.45pm.
The policespokesman said: “A motorist in his early 60s had suffered what appeared to be a cardiac arrest and one lane of the A23 was temporarily closed while paramedics treated the man at the scene.
“He was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where sadly he later died.”
