Morrisons will be holding a consultation with staff in an attempt to reduce the number of redundancies as it prepares to close one of its stores in Crawley.
The company confirmed today (Wednesday January 14) the branch in Broadfield Barton would be one of 10 loss-making stores to close.
A spokesman said there would be no announcement about when the store would close or how many job losses would be involved until the consultation with staff was complete.
He added: “We have looked extremely carefully at whether the store can be turned around but unfortunately we cannot see a way of making it viable.
“We are therefore proposing its closure.
“We are consulting with colleagues and unions to reduce the risk of redundancies and we are looking at ways of redeploying colleagues around our business.”
