Astonished to learn West Sussex currently only has one registered bee keeper, one nature-loving electrician has started a project to bring honey to Bognor Regis.
Rob Wallace said: “Bees can travel about two miles from its source, so in the whole of West Sussex that is crazy.”
As a result he’s hoping to team up with Rookery Egg Farm, Flansham Lane.
He said: “It is something I had wanted to do for a long, long, time.
“I spoke to the farmer and he said he’d love it. He said he hadn’t the time for the upkeep so we have come to an agreement where I will set it up and keep it running but on his land.”
Mr Wallace has found a type of hive, from Australia, which means honey can be extracted without disturbing the bees.
And to fund the project he’s offering honey in return for pledges on online platfrom Kickstarter.
So far the response has been good.
Mr Wallace said: “People have been crying out for it, the local shops are keen and it is good for people with hay fever. I am staying positive that it will happen and I am putting things in place so we can be ready to go.”
The target to raise is £3,900 by September 9. To find out more see www.kickstarter.com/projects/934841126/rookery-runny-honey.
