An elderly man died after the fire in the Bishopric last night (Monday, January 11), police have said.

According to Sussex Police, patrolling officers saw a house on fire at 7.30pm.

A spokesman said: “An elderly man who was living there has sadly been confirmed deceased at the scene.

“Another elderly man found at the address is being treated at hospital for some burn injuries to his hands and smoke inhalation but his condition is not assessed as life threatening.

“The incident is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious at this stage.”

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service posted on social media last night, asking residents to avoid the area ‘while the fire is brought under control’.
