Village Voices: Ewhurst Green, Staplecross and Cripps Corner - November 26, 2010

Tomorrow (Saturday) there is a parish supper and jazz evening in the village hall, starting at 6.30 pm when there is a two-course sit down supper with a glass of wine/juice.

Jazz pianist Ben Trigg will be playing during the evening. Should you be interested at this late stage and wish to attend, please contact Lizzie Stern 830380 or John Barnes 830830 to check whether there are tickets available.

It was the Ewhurst, Staplecross and Bodiam Garden Society’s annual meeting last week, when the business element of the evening was dealt with swiftly under the able chairmanship of Pam Underhill.

Pam was re-elected for a further year and there were few changes for the committee, with Jane Kemp being made a full member, Cathy Platen was co-opted and it was with regret that Norma Stringer’s resignation was accepted.

Pam Underhill spoke of another successful year, with a slight increase in entrants for the year’s shows, especially from the men.

Visits to Hampton Court on one of the hottest days of the year and to Ashburnham had been very successful.

Pam thanked the members of the committee who had made her tenure easy and paid tributes to Fiona and John Wouter, Jennie and Peter Lynam and Richard Biggs.

Maggie Whitaker’s input of gardening at Staplecross School as part of the curriculum and Dennis Farnsworth as auditor for the Society were mentioned, and Norma Stringer who had been secretary since 1991.

Pam Dance, Treasurer, said it was thanks to the good support of members that the Society continues to thrive and as a result, the annual subscription would remain at £6 to be paid at the December meeting.

The December meeting that would also be the Christmas party would be free to members, albeit donations of food would be made by members, and visitors welcome at £2.00.
