Village Voices: Netherfield - November 26, 2010

Netherfield Church – The focus this week has been the retirement of our Rev. Stuart Baker.

He and Irene were given a brilliant send off with an evening celebration held in Mountfield Village Hall.

Around a hundred people attended and saw the presentation of a Victoria Plum tree for their garden and a very healthy cheque for them to use as they wish.

I expect a full version of the event will appear in the Mountfield section and it will no doubt highlight the wonderful atmosphere and that everyone really enjoyed the evening.

Well done to all those who contributed. The United Holy Communion at Brightling on the 21st was Stuart’s final service in the Benefice to which all the parishes were invited.

Brightling Church was full and the service was followed with coffee and biscuits and the chance for everyone to say their goodbyes.

We all wish Stuart and Irene every happiness in their new life and home in Eastbourne. Looking ahead now, Netherfield’s last service in November will be our Advent Carols on 28th at 5 p.m.

This is the beginning of our Christmas celebrations and is an ideal service to bring children to as most of it is done by our children.

There are readings and Advent Carols with a candlelight procession. It really is a delightful service and quite a spectacle, all by candlelight.

On Saturday 4th December Father Christmas is coming to Netherfield Church.

Brunch with Father Christmas between 10 a.m. and noon is a must for the children. Bring them along to meet Father Christmas, collect their gift and even have a go in the bran tub.

Enjoy a bacon buttie and a cup of tea or coffee.
