Village Voices: Playden - November 26, 2010

As I write to you this Monday morning, the sun is doing its best to brighten the landscape.

But the north wind is forecast so shall we have snow?

It will play havoc with the geraniums and cyclamen if we do.

Playden School will be holding the Christmas Fair tomorrow, Saturday 27th, from 11 am at the school.

The main attraction will be the X-mas Factor, a golden opportunity for children to perform in front of the likes of Simon Fowl, Danni Minoog, and Cheryl Cool.

Maybe a talent will be revealed, of which we shall be able to say in future years, “We heard them first at Playden”.

There will also be a raffle, chocolate tombola, turkey baps and other refreshments, cakes, Santa’s Grotto and much, much more.

No outside traders will be there.

There will be an Advent Coffee Morning in the Buttermarket, Town Hall, Rye, from 10 am to 12.30 pm on Saturday 27th, tomorrow.

There you will find cakes, gifts, a raffle, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, all served with mince pies. This is being run by Playden Church.

The Exhibition and Sale of Creative Arts is open now at the Respite Centre, behind the Memorial Care Centre at the top of Rye Hill.

The exhibits have all been created by members of ARRCC. Today and tomorrow it will be open from 10.30 am to 4 pm.

The Christingle Service this year is being held on Sunday, 5th December, at 3 pm in Iden Church.

Everyone is welcome, especially children.

Refreshments will be served after the service. Please come and join in, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbours. Iden looks forward to seeing you there.The Mobile Library will be at Poppyfield at 11.30 to 11.50 am on Monday Morning.

Rye and District Camera Club will be at Playden W.I.Hall on Monday evening at 7.30 pm for the club Projected Image competition. The judge will be Frank Page, LRPS, LMPA.Playden Parish Council will meet on Thursday 2nd December at 7.30 pm in Playden W.I.Hall. Do come, the council represents you.

The Bromley Youth Chamber Orchestra and Newstead Wood School for Girls present a concert in St. Mary’s Church Rye, on Saturday 4th December at 7.30 pm.

The programme is to include music by Handel, Grieg, Elgar and seasonal motets and anthems.

There will be refreshments. This is to raise funds to support Chernobyl Children Rye.Last Sunday was “Stir up Sunday” according to C. of E. readings. By now all cakes and puddings are supposed to be “stirred” and mellowing in time for Christmas.

That being the case, this coming Sunday is Advent Sunday. The service will be Family Communion at 11 am led by our Team Rector, Canon David Frost.
