What are your favourite memories of Victoria Wood?

According to her publicist, the 62-year-old comedienne, singer, songwriter, writer and actor had been battling cancer.

While the news will no doubt bring tears to many eyes, the memory of her incomparable talent should raise many a smile.

During her tour of 1988, she visited Crawley Leisure Centre – “They told me it was the large, square building, so after I’d been to the town hall, the library and Sainsbury’s, I tried here.”

Crawley Observer reporter Karen Dunn remembered her visit fondly.

She said: “I was nine months pregnant at the time and I was laughing so much one of the St John Ambulance people kept edging closer and closer to my seat, just in case I laughed myself into labour.

“After Victoria had taken her third curtain call – ending with the unforgettable song ‘Let’s Do It’ – we all started filing out.

“The room was filled with laughter and joy and was made extra special for me when the lady herself popped her head round the curtain as I waddled out and said ‘you OK there?’”
