Whatlington Remembers: The Remembrance Service at Whatlington last Sunday was, as such services were all through the country, very moving and served to remind us of the sacrifice so many made, including those who survived and came home. Among the congregation were family members of one of those men recorded on the war memorial and they were just home from France and Belgium, including the Menin Gate at Ypres, where their family member’s name is recorded as there is no known grave. A verse from Lawrence Binyon’s poem ‘The Fallen’, beginning: ‘They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old . . .’ were read by a former Lancaster bomber pilot who served in the Second World War, thus bringing a direct connection with the second conflict.

Church Services: The service at Whatlington next Sunday will be at the usual time of 09.30 am.

The Royal Oak: The pub is steadily being transformed with decorations for the festive season, so drop in and have a look.

Child of Sussex Awards: Many congratulations to Ruby Scarboro, aged 10, from Whatlington Road, who recently won the Best Friend category in the Child of Sussex Awards, for her outstanding care of her younger sister Kitty, who suffers from cerebral palsy. Kitty indicated to her parents, Simon and Debbie, that Ruby should be nominated after hearing about the awards on the radio one morning, and was thrilled to hear that Ruby had been chosen from so many other nominations.
