Why the Great Storm of 1987 would be so different today

Thirty years ago this Sunday (October 15) Sussex and much of Southern England were battered by The Great Storm.

It was the most devastating severe weather event since 1703, one that uprooted an estimated 15 million trees, caused £1bn worth of damage and tragically claimed the lives of 22 people in the South-East.
