June Church Market: The promise of good food, good coffee and a good chat awaits all at tomorrow's (June 4th) Church Market from 10.30am to 12 noon. Also on sale will be plants and a fresh stock of new volumes on interesting topics to read at your leisure. Do come along and bring friends. All proceeds are in aid of church funds and last month's Market raised £240.95 so thank you for all your support.

Sing Joyfully: A choir concert by The Occasional Consort will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm in St Thomas’ Church. Sing Joyfully is led by Anne Whiteman and the music will include: ‘For St Cecilia’ by Gerald Finzi, ‘Hail! Bright Cecilia’ by Henry Purcell and other British composers. A complimentary glass of wine is included in the tickets which are £10 each available on the door.

The Somme: ‘The Opening Day of the Somme’ is the title of the Second Wednesday’s next talk on Wednesday June 8th at 2.30pm in the New Hall. A good home-made tea is served after the talk and total entrance cost is £1 members and £4 non-members. John Guyatt will be giving the talk which remembers that fateful day of July 1st 1916 for the British army in World War 1. What began as a war of attrition ended with troops being ordered over the top of the trenches to walk towards enemy lines. The result was that 57,470 brave soldiers were killed and injured by enemy fire. When the Battle of the Somme finally ended on November 18th of that year there were more than a million casualties from both sides.

Flower show: The annual Rose, Sweet Pea and Clematis Show organised by the Garden Society will take place next Saturday June 11th in the Lower Court Hall. Coffee will be served from 10.30am with staging of exhibits until 11am. The winners in the show will be presented with Cups at 12 noon.

Top of Hill Fete: The Rye Winchelsea & District Memorial Hospital, located at the top of Rye Hill, is having its annual Summer Fete next Saturday June 11th starting at 12 noon. There is free admission and parking plus a continuous community bus service from Tilling Green via Jempsons, Rye. The afternoon will include a Grand Raffle with plenty of prizes, a bouncy castle, donkey rides, face painting, traditional games, teas, ice creams, plants, books, toys, bric-a-brac, cakes and jams, as well as live music and Lindy Hop dancing.

Evening praise: On the first Sunday in the month St Richard’s Church welcomes all to its 3pm Evening Praise service. There will be no morning worship on this occasion. The date for the evening service is June 5th, to be led by the Rector with light refreshments to follow.

Popular lunch: It is essential to book in advance for the Fellowship Lunch by contacting 01797 227168. The lunch consists of a wholesome home-cooked meal along with a speaker and a donation towards a charity is requested’. Beginning at 12 for 12 for 12.30pm the lunch is held in the Community Hall on Friday June 24th.
