Witness appeal after fatal collision

A woman died and three other people were seriously injured in an accident in Guildford on Saturday.

With Guildford being a popular destination for shoppers from north-west Sussex, police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the town.

A statement from Surrey Police said: “Officers from Surrey Police’s Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to appeal for witnesses following a fatal collision in Bridge Street, Guildford on Saturday, 20 February.

“Shortly before 1.30pm a grey Landrover Defender left the road and was involved in a collision with a number of pedestrians.

“A woman in her thirties was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. She has yet to be formally identified but her next of kin have been informed and Surrey Police officers are continuing to provide support to her family at this extremely difficult time.

“Another pedestrian, a man in his forties, suffered multiple serious injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting where he remains in a serious condition.

“A third pedestrian, a woman in her late twenties or early thirties, suffered minor injuries and has since been released from hospital.

“The driver of the vehicle, a man in his forties, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to The Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford but has since been released.

“Officers are carrying out further enquiries as part of an ongoing investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
